The final album. The last album up to date. You know, when I first heard a new Slipknot album was coming out, I went crazy. I told everyone I knew, continuously. I was so psyched when I heard the new single, Psychosocial. I almost jumped off my roof when I saw the new music video. After, I heard the single All Hope Is Gone. I couldn't get it off of my head. The rest of the songs was leaked, but I didn't want to hear it. When I had the money, I rushed to the mall near my house, went inside the Hot Topic store and bought the special edition, that brought 3 extra songs. I put it on my iTunes and put the CD in a place where it won't be ruined. Kept hearing the album 50+ times. I then stopped listening to music for a while. I came back and heard Slipknot in correct order of albums. That's when I realized, this album isn't what I honestly expected it to be. I wanted better, but they gave us mediocre. This album is All Hope Is Gone.
"All Hope Is Gone" 2008

1- .execute.
It sounds pretty good. The song is basically a rant about things that are going on that concerns human's feelings and such. The song itself, it starts with some sampling, to guitar, and then a fast drum solo. It sounds pretty sick. You stop caring on what Corey is trying to say and you just indulge yourself when Joey does his drum solo.
2- Gehenna (The Killing Name)
One of my favorite songs in this album. It's sick as hell, you have your thrashy sounding guitars and the fast drum fills. It's trying to replicate (SIC) from the self-titled album, where you get an intro song that goes directly to the next song, and that next song is a slap in the face.
3- Sulfur
This song is meh. It's not that great, the only cool thing is Joey bringing the double bass. The way Corey sings the chorus is fine, but this is where you can see how Slipknot changed. It doesn't sound that great. The video for this song is pretty cool, I like it. But the song, not that great.
4- Psychosocial
I like this song. It's a pretty good single, no lie. The music video is pretty sick, they used these totem heads as torches (they used totem heads before releasing the new masks). They also used alot of water and fire. Theres a part in the video where they poured water down Joey's cymbals and when he goes to hit both crash cymbals, it goes slow-mo and you can see the water bounce up and splashes. It was a great single to start the hype for this album.
5- Dead Memories
I like this song. At the time of buying this album, I was getting over my "moments" of back then, and listening to this song helped me out. "But you asked me to love, and I did. Traded my emotions for a contract to commit. And when I got away, I only got so far. The other me is dead, I hear his voice inside my head." "Dead visions in your name. Dead fingers in my veins. Dead memories in my heart." The video for this song is purely amazing. It starts off with Corey with no mask burying a hole. He goes inside the whole and his in his straight jacket and mask and he goes through each band member, a challenge to go past their mind. Out of all music videos in this album, I like this one the most.
6- Vendetta
All I have to say about this song, sick drum intro. The rest of the song is awesome, this is another favorite of mine of all Slipknot songs. this will come to spot number 3. "Are you ready for the time of your life? Let's - Pretend - We're not at the end. Pretend - That we have nothing left."
7- Butcher's Hook
When I first read the title for this song, I imagine those hooks you see dead pigs are hanged by and a butcher is using the hook to kill people. Well, the song itself is great. It just screams out anger. I love the fact that this song is all just harsh and the lyrics are just amazing, because I had problems and this song made me want to kick them aside. This band helped me kick everything I hated aside and just listen to their music.
8- Gehenna
This is like Iowa's "Skin Ticket", which like I said before, not one of my favorites. This is like, a slow song that has to do with feelings and emotions. Like, bottled up emotions, to be exact. When you listen to this song, you feel like you have a burning sensation to let go and just sit down to think of the regrets you have, if you do have, and try to burn them away from your mind.
9- This Cold Black
Not much to say about this song, just that it's a good song to listen to after Gehenna. This is one of my favorite songs in this album. It's so hard-hitting, and has big words for you who have intensive reading! You can learn new words such as the words in this verse, "Pneumatic Destroyer - Pathetic Seducer - Distortion Sufficient."
10- Wherein Lies Continue
This song is okay. Like I said about The Shape and Three Nil, it's good but not talked about alot. The thing is, by this time, people would stop listening to the album because since we all expected more and we just got an alternative sounding album, we just gave up. I didn't, they still will be my favorite band. This song is okay, I like it. But like I said, you don't hear good things about it since you don't see this song talked about alot.
11- Snuff
Now this is like Vol. 3's "Vermilion Pt. 2" since the acoustic feeling in this song. Thing is, this song is the only acoustic sounding song in this whole album. So they did a good thing about not having alot of acoustic songs, unlike Vol. 3. I don't really know the meaning of this song, but yet you can tell it's about bottled feelings toward someone that you want to tell them about everything, but either you don't want to, it feels like you can't, or they just walk away when you have the chance. To get an idea of what I mean, watch the video. It seems like Corey wants to show a woman how much he cares, but she walks away, giving him no chance to relieve himself, so he's suffering with emotional pain. Well, other than that, this song is great when it comes to relieving emotions.
12- All Hope Is Gone
I've noticed, every time Slipknot does a sad song, right after that in the track list comes a hard hitting song that punches you in the face. This song is an example of that. From a sad heartfelt song to a fast paced thrashy piece of music, it seems like a punch in the stomach and slap in the face. This song is amazing, and I have to say, the best song in this album. You can say, they saved the best for last.
This album deserves an 8 out of 10. It's a good album, but doesn't really compete with their other albums. It does go head-to-head to Vol. 3, but knowing that, you can see that they can do better. Well, that's it from this band; no more albums. I will post one more post though, it will be the final part of the Slipknot series. I will go back to reviewing bands next month. I've gotten requests, so watch for that.
Until next time, goodbye.
